Jane Mugo

Jane Mugo is a lecturer at the University of Nairobi and is involved in several projects. She has a PhD in Agrometeorology and her research interest is in crop suitability mapping, climate projections downscaling and crop modelling under different agronomic and climate scenarios.

Jane has worked in the University sector since completing her undergraduate degree in 2014. On August 2014 she was hired as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at South Eastern Kenya University after graduating as the best student in her class. On May 2017 she was promoted to a Tutorial fellow position upon completing her Msc in Agrometeorology degree. On February 2021 she moved to the University of Nairobi as a Tutorial Fellow while pursuing a PhD in Meteorology. On September 2022 she was hired as a full time lecturer at the University of Nairobi upon completion of her PhD. Since July 2022, Jane also works as a part-time lecturer at Strathmore University.

Since February Jane works as the lead Statistician and GIS Expert for the Biodiversity Information Development for Africa at the Center for Biodiversity Information Development at Strathmore University. Her role is to use various machine-learning algorithms to produce biodiversity maps for different species of endangered birds of prey.

Since August, 2022 Jane works as a crop modeller for The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Excellence in Agronomy Initiative, where her role is to use climate, soil and management data to model crop growth for various countries in Africa.

From September 2021 to December 2021, Jane was the International Consultant for FAO Sudan where her role was to downscale climate data as well as train the Sudan Meteorological Service on the same.
