Bashir Mohamed Ahmed

Bashir Mohamed Ahmed is the National Coordinator for the Digital Agriculture Research Program at Agricultural Research Corporation (ARC), Sudan. Bashir also serves as secretary of National Crop Husbandry Committee. Bashir is currently implementing among others the project “Socio-hydrological analysis of drought resilience in Sahelian Sudan farming system, SHADRESS”. Bashir also supervises M.Sc. and PhD research students.

Bashir is implementing two climate related projects that include Modelling Subproject of the NAP Readiness Project (2022) and SHADRESS (2020-2024). The main goal of the former project is to raise the awareness of climate change among different stakeholders and improve evidence base of climatic impacts with specific focus on the main production systems supporting the livelihood systems (sorghum, millet, wheat, groundnut, sesame, cotton and vegetables). While the aim of the latter one is to conduct field surveys in Gezira irrigated area to establish the base data of SHADRESS stakeholder group and to sample social characteristics, perception and decisions within the context of SHADRESS.

Bashir has published various articles that used satellite-based measurements data to extract indices help to understand and predict future crop yield, crop water consumption/requirements, surface temperature and the impact of deficit water supply on crop biomass for the main production systems (Sorghum, Wheat, Sunflower, Cotton, etc.).

Bashir holds a PhD in Global Science from Kobe University, Kobe (Japan) and Master of Science degree in Agricultural Mechanization from Khartoum University, Khartoum (Sudan).
