Nada Babiker Hamza

Prof. Nada Hamza work covered projects and programs in sustainable

and climate change resilient agriculture in arid and semi-arid environments, agriculture development policies and programs, plant genetic resources for food and agriculture, Biotechnology & Biosafety. She has long experience with efficient results-based multidisciplinary teams; projects and institutional activities and in resource mobilization activities for programs.

Currently, she is a Professor at the National Center for Research (NCR, Sudan), where she started her career in 1998 as a research assistant at the Environment, Natural Resources, and Desertification Research Institute. In 2009, She joined the University of Bergen (Norway) as a senior researcher under Nile Basin Research Program (land-use change and Biodiversity). She also worked for NEPAD (New Partnership for Africa Development) Sudan Secretariat as Chairman of advisory committee on Agriculture and food security; also, as a member of the Economic and Socio-economic Development committee of the National Governor Council of the African Peer Review Mechanism (PRM- NEPAD).

Prof. Hamza obtained her Ph.D. Degree with Distinction in Agriculture in 2005 from University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, BOKU, Vienna, Austria. In 1998, She obtained her M.Sc. in Agriculture from the University of Khartoum. During her career, she worked with several teams in Europe (Austria, Italy, UK, Belgium, Norway, Switzerland), in Asia (India), and in Africa (Sudan, Egypt, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa).

Prof. Hamza Started working on issues related to Climate Change since 1999. As National expert, Prof. Hamza has significant contributions in reports, e.g.: Communications under United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and on Biological Diversity, etc. She was member of the Higher Consultative Committee for the implementation of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change-Under the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Physical Development, and chairman of Mitigation of Climate Change working Group reviewing Sudan’s obligations to implement the Paris Agreement, participated in revision and update of Intended National Contributions (INDCs), Participated in Regional Dialogues on Nationally Determined Contributions, NDCs, for Africa.

Prof. Hamza’s work is published in more than one hundred publications in peer-reviewed journals, technical reports, chapters and presented in 35 conferences/workshops held in 28 countries across the world. She serves as editor and reviewer of several scientific journals. Ms. Hamza contributed strongly in teaching and mentoring female and male students since 1999. Moreover, she designed curriculums for several universities, supervised more than 40 Ph.D., M.Sc. and B.Sc. from different universities. She has received recognitions for her work, e.g.: in 2011, obtained a prize from the African Union-The World Academy of Sciences (AU-TWAS), and in 2015 received a Certificate of Recognition for Efforts to Promote Science in Sudan and empowerment of women, from the S. Women in Science Organization.
