AMMAR MOKHTAR GOMAHA

I am AMMAR Mokhtar Gomaha GABER, a National Consultants (Climatologist) at NAP-Readiness project. Before joining FAO, I worked for Sudan Meteorological Authority (SMA) as a weather forecaster, climatologist and a senior grometeorologist. I participated in designing and implementation of a tailored Early Warning System through broadcasting in West Darfur and El Gadarif states. I participated and delivered several capacity developments workshops in producing seasonal forecast for agricultural sector. I provided consultation and design for Drought Monitoring Preparedness and Early Response System (DMPERS) for livestock sector. I led a Predictive Livestock Early Warning System (PLEWS) taskforce in Mainstreaming Climate Change in Livestock project. I provided consultation and wrote about Sudan climate, climate change and multi-hazard Early Warning System for the study about Climate Change Disasters, Flood Impacts and Risk Management on MENA Region: The Case Study of Sudan and its implications for Regional Flood Responses.

I am fond of big data and data science. I designed and delivered several courses in data analysis and visualization in collaboration with University of Khartoum Advanced Training Center.

I wrote a subchapter about Systematic observations for Sudan Third National Communication Report.

I contributed to FAO NAP-Readiness project implementation through my active participating in climate projections production process that consisted of capacity building and climate change projections data set production for the whole country and all its states. Also, increasing the stakeholders’ awareness and outreach for different partners, practitioners, and experts concerning climate change dataset availability and usages in agricultural, livestock and water sectors. Provision of guidance and technical support for the experts in crop and cropping system modeling on using the climate change climate change projections datasets.

Moreover, I supported SMA in producing Sudan downscaled and biased-corrected climate change projections dataset for setting up the national adaptation plans by state-level technical committees.

I designed and delivered a climate data analysis training workshop under NAP-Readiness project. Regarding teaching skills, I am volunteering for delivering weather and climate data analysis course for undergraduates at Faculty of Geographical Science and Environment at University of Khartoum.

Among other skills, I am mastering several programming and data analysis languages/tools such as Python and R. Data analysis and visualization tools such as CDO, GrADS & NCL.

My background is in Physics (BSc. From Sudan University of Science & Technology – SUST) and I have Post graduate diploma in Meteorology from University of Khartoum (UoK), Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Sudan Academy of Science (SAS) and MSc. in Environmental Science from Chiang Mai University in Thailand.
